Holidaze

Float Center Lobby
My days are all  messed up.

Went grocery shopping last night since I did not want to shop on Christmas Eve. Did part of my shopping at Target and when  I got in line this woman matter-of-factly told me that her husband is ornery and that he contests everything. "I'm telling you this so you won't get angry."

And sure enough, he did exactly what she said he was going to do so I moved to another line...

I don't usually go to yoga on Saturday but there was one class being offered and it was at 10, a feasible time. Class was jam packed and a good look at what January will be like.

Annie's reminder of the day -- the real gift to our peeps is true love and presence. Roger that, Annie...

Hadn't planned on it but I when I saw that this floating place had evening appointments, I booked a float for today. I had gotten a group coupon package which was going to expire on Dec. 29th and I knew that I wouldn't be able to get one in next week.

I am so relaxed and sleepy right now.

On Friday one of my coworkers gave our little department some cookies and coffee -- such a sweet gesture. She also gave me an eco-friendly blanket that will work great for yoga. When I got the studio the props are already there but when I practice at the gym, I take my own props. I wasn't expecting a gift from my coworker but...

Have The Courage

"If I come in tomorrow and say that I haven't gone to Zumba, punch me in the face because there's no reason that I shouldn't go."

That's what my  new coworker told me, LOL. She went to Zumba but I didn't go yesterday. I walked then went to yoga instead. Noticed that the name of the class had been changed from Open and Unwind to Open Level. Open Level generally means that it's going to be an intense class but I wondered how intense the teacher would make it at 8:00 p.m. Well, I got all of my questions answered. I kept thinking that I don't have to have any conflict about whether or not to keep going to Zumba or yoga on Thursdays and I also thought This class is not for me.

I go into yoga classes knowing that I can modify as needed but there's also an amount of pressure that I put on myself to keep up. Annie must have read my mind because she said If xyz is not working for you, have the courage to opt out. Sweet opting out.

As we put away props, Annie told me that her class is different every week. Guess she must have sensed my struggle...

Before I left for work today, the same coworker told me that if she comes back on Monday and says that she had donuts for dinner that I should punch her in the face. It's sounds harsh but it also sounds funny when she says it. Donuts are her weakness. With the exception of the original Krispy Kreme donut, they don't make my knees buckle and the same goes for soda but put me in front of a cupcake case and it's all over.

Made my way to restorative yoga after work. Annie was the sub and, after class, someone said that they didn't know that she was capable of slowing down.

The Stormy Yoga Session

Just got back from a super relaxing class. Thank you to Annie who started off class with one of my favorite phrases Let's start on our backs.

Got to practice next to one of my yoga retreat peeps tonight. Laura introduced me to two of her peeps and I felt a little bad about not being more sociable with my fellow yogis...

Tonight's special class got me to thinking about my favorite classes during the yoga retreat and I have to say that the very first practice was meaningful to me because I was discombobulated from traveling and that first class made me feel grounded and let me know that everything was going to be good.

My second favorite class is what I like to call the stormy weather yoga class. We hit the mat and it was breezy and the sky looked dark.
Storm Clouds, Negril (Nov. 2015)

Alison let me borrow her Manduka travel mat which is pretty lightweight and it totally turned into a magic carpet trying to fly away. That class almost became a laughter yoga class as we tried to anchor, mostly, our mats. Several yogis came over to place things on my mat because it was all over the place and twisted.

During the stormy class, I also liked it when Joy said, during savasana, that she was on the lookout and that we could go ahead and settle into corpse pose. I love a good guard...

What I learned from the stormy yoga session was to not rely on a travel mat. A travel mat blows away easily but it also doesn't offer very much support and if you're on a yoga retreat, you might as well have a worthy mat. I also learned that in addition to the universe having my back, my fellow yogis also have my back.
