Not As Zen Either

I'm reading so many yoga books that it's hard to remember what yoga gems come from where but I'm going to find a binder around the house and keep the treasures centralized. I would put them in my yoga teacher training manual but it's already pretty full...

Taught a yoga class to two people at work on Wednesday. The first person who showed up said that if she was the only one that I didn't have to hold the class and I said that I would absolutely hold it.

I used to have similar thoughts when I showed up to a class and, as it got closer to start time, it was apparent that I might be the only one in attendance and I would think about offering the teacher the same deal. Doing a one-on-one doesn't seem awkward anymore and maybe it's because I had to do a one-on-one with my trainer in order to graduate or maybe it's because a yoga teacher friend said that she's learned some of her greatest lessons when only one student showed up.

Also, maybe the only person who shows up really needs yoga that day...

At any rate, I felt like it was a good class. It definitely was a reminder to be more mindful. For instance, I usually put my iPad on airplane mode while playing music but I forgot yesterday. Luckily, it didn't beep until the very end of class. I will say that something unexpected came up before class and I'm sure it won't be the last time. So, I need to expand my yoga checklist and make sure that I eyeball it before class no matter what.

The strings on my pants also hit the singing bowls while I played during savasana and, to me, it's like fingernails on a chalkboard. Okay, not that harsh but definitely not as zen either. Although, I did note that both of my students lingered after the "official" end of savasana which I will attribute to the magic of the singing bowls.

After class ended, one of my coworkers said that we should be allowed to have a yoga break every day and that it would definitely help with productivity. I would love to slip in a brief, weekly sound meditation. Maybe it could be called Sound Meditation Refresher...

Other Adjectives

At the end of Saturday, experienced that familiar feeling of not having gotten enough chores done but I read, went to Zumba and worked in the yard for an hour.

On Sunday checked off a few more chores then went to the botanical garden to see the orchid show for the second time on the last day of the show.

Merbaby

Started reading Matthew Sandford's Waking on Friday evening and finished the book on Sunday morning. It was riveting and intense plus other adjectives.

Can't even begin to tell you how many yoga books I've been sampling lately.

A Simple Start

Mentioned to the yoga class that it's the Spring Equinox, HoliInternational Day of Happiness and World Storytelling Day.

This woman, who joined us for the first time, said And it's my birthday. Next, she apologized for interrupting. None of us minded and it was cool that she joined us for yoga on her birthday.

In honor of World Storytelling Day, I told this story about the Buddha and the Snake. Love the way it starts -- The great Buddha was sitting under the Bodhi tree meditating... It's a simple start to a story but I like it.

Did a chair yoga class today and I'm definitely developing a fondness for accessible yoga.

To Rouse Them

Wrapped up Yoga Teacher Training this past weekend, wow! It was bittersweet, for sure.

I am happy about having another weekend to rest but I will miss my mat mates and the intense learning experience (with deadlines).

For our final weekend, we had to turn in our 30 class log, assists/adjustments and Seva project paperwork. Kept thinking that surely I had missed something and that not all boxes were checked but that was untrue.

Some of my mates brought their children for Family Yoga on Saturday and it was an amazing class and I see why Stacy enjoys teaching children so much. Stacy is a great trainer but she's even better with children.

We also practiced on Sunday, took group pictures, had exit interviews and were presented with our official yoga teacher certificates, wow!

Yesterday, I taught a 30 minute class at work and, later on, taught a relay-style class with some of my classmates. The studio has had a couple of relay classes and they're usually around the holiday and to benefit an organization. This time the class was to celebrate our graduation plus to benefit one of my classmate's Seva project, Paraquad.

My classmate, Roxanne, has actually reached our group to see if someone else is able to teach classes as well. It's during the work day so I would need to figure out the logistics.

On another note, some good news is that yoga is covered under my sound therapy insurance so I don't need to look around for that. The insurance industry, ugh.

More good news... Sequencing is starting to make a little more sense. Transitions will pop into my head. I would have to practice the sequence before it would occur to me to put in a transition pose. I still practice the sequence but when I'm writing it, I'll be like Oh, I need a child's pose here or a downward-facing dog there.

There were six of us that taught in the relay last night and my role had already been decided as Stacy told the studio owner to put me in the "restorative spot" with singing bowls. It went well and everyone really liked the post-savasana chimes that I used to rouse them.

In other news, we celebrated Pi Day at work.

The Chorus

Trying not to join the chorus of people who are saying "I'm tired of winter" because it is, after all, still winter.

My backup camera days ago...

It's the six month of being super understaffed at work and people send me emails like "Circling back to the email that I sent you..." because I can't keep up. As John Lewis said, upon finding out information about his ancestors in Finding Your Roots, It's too much... It's to the point that if someone doesn't get back to me, I don't get upset; I sympathize and think that they are possibly understaffed.

The 'fugee suggested that I continue to concentrate on increasing the quality of my life in other areas, and that's what I try to do.

Went to the mall on Saturday for bath bombs and thought about going to look for sweat pants which I've suddenly become obsessed with and as I looked at Macy's, remembered that I'd bought a blue pair of sweat pants that I was very happy with. The sweat pants were in the basement sitting on top of a the laundry basket -- in plain sight...

Taught my fourth Seva class and it felt like the worst one. Forgot this one sequence within the sequence. Felt out of sync etc. but people were kind and stopped to thank me before they left.

I shouldn't be surprised about my "off day" as work was rough. At some point, realized that I was going to have to tap into my well of resources and try to find some semblance of balance before teaching yoga.

Went climbing tonight but wasn't looking forward to it after the outing that I had last time. On my last route during that outing my patella felt like it took a tiny elevator. My knee cooperated tonight and, in general, feels better.

When Patti messaged me about climbing, said that I was coming but didn't know if I had what it took to climb and she messaged me back Hahahahah...of course you have what it takes. Don't be silly.

I Relate

Saturday is, hands down, my favorite day. I don't usually have anywhere to be in the morning so I leisurely read, drink coffee then head to Zumba around 10:40 which is what I did today.

Ran a quick errand then came home to eat before meeting Alison at the art museum for 2019's Art in Bloom. It was packed -- possibly because of the weather advisory. We stayed for about two hours and still didn't see all of the floral art.

We encountered this one woman who had lost her pencil so I let her borrow my pen so that she could mark off the ones that she'd already seen. She told us that she hadn't really taken any pictures because she'd just deleted pictures from 2018's Art in Bloom, ha-ha; I relate.

Overall, I think Art in Bloom is a brilliant concept. I enjoyed seeing so many people out and it's also a reminder for me that I don't get to the museum often enough.

Not the art it's representing but I like the composition.

Drawn to this one...

I want thissssss!

There were such nice touches throughout the museum.
