Unless You're Chaka Khan

Okay, you know the Living Social massage therapist that I was trying to make an appointment with but she had limited availability?

She sold almost 400 massages the first time out and I was a little put off with her hours, tone of voice and assumptions.

She was back on Living Social for Mother's Day and this time she sold about 500 massages. At least she has a website now with her hours of operation. She has also added two days that she's available during the evening.

I've seen other therapists who've been featured on group coupon sites get additional help (temporarily) once they've sold beaucoup coupons. I don't think this therapist will employ that strategy; it's a case of trying to have everything and be every woman which is not possible unless you're Chaka Khan.

MassageLuxe is on Groupon today and will be up for three days and they've already sold close to 5,000 massages on the first day. Now, that's a lot of people wanting massages or a lot of Mother's Day gifts.

Blogger's Note: Chaka is rockin' that outfit.

P.S. Happy Anniversary to my brother and s-i-l.

Beats Per Minute

There's nothing quite as disappointing as getting ready to exercise and your MP3 player won't turn on even though the battery symbol is indicating that there should be enough juice for many songs to play.

There have been several articles published lately to verify that music does help you through your workout and, as long as it's music that you enjoy, the tempo doesn't matter.

Personally, I like up-tempo music when fatigue sets in and I'm trying to get over the workout hump.

Here are the beats per minute for some of my favorite "gut it out" songs.

  • 125 BPM: Billie Jean, Michael Jackson

  • 134 BPM: Easy Lover, Philip Bailey & Phil Collins

  • 130 BPM: Flashlight, Parliament Funkadelic

  • 119 BPM: I'm Every Woman, Chaka Khan

  • 120 BPM: It's A New Day, will.i.am

  • 124 BPM: Miss Me Blind, Culture Club

  • 120 BPM: Now That We Found Love, Heavy D & The Boys

  • 123 BPM: Please Don't Stop The Music, Rihanna

  • 115 BPM: Say, Say, Say, Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney

  • 145 BPM: Sweet Dreams, Eurythmics

  • Of course, if the music does stop playing, I exercise unplugged...

Look and Song of the Day

I was at the gym working out by the window when this Afghan woman looked in with bewilderment. She seemed to be particulary fascinated by the pedals. I'm sure she wondered why someone would get on such a contraption.

While I was on the AMT, I had to disengage from the cardio theatre because neither This Week or SportsCenter was helping me gut it out. I unplugged from the TV and plugged in my MP3 player. Chaka Khan was in my ear first and I was able to find inspiration in this verse alone.

I'm every woman, it's all in me...
I was watching some of today's Suns/Warriors game which was an all out track meet; it made me want to get on a court just to shoot around a bit.

I found this recipe for Cocoa Brownies in Shape magazine. This rich, low-calorie chocolate treat was calling my name.

Why must the sweets always beckon me?
