The Yoga Place and The Wedding Place

Jessica and David, two of my climbing buddies, got married today at the exact time as one of my fave yoga classes, ha-ha.

I thought about going to a class right before the wedding which was totally doable since the yoga place and the wedding place are about three minutes away from each other but the alternate class was a warm one and I am finished with heated yoga classes. Plus, I am over, to a certain extent, trying to squeeze things in just because I can.

Jessica and David's wedding was at the Jewel Box in beautiful Forest Park. In case you haven't heard, Forest Park is twice as big as Central Park. :)

I love the minimalist and lovely approach that Jessica and David took toward their wedding and I love it that Jessica was accompanied down the aisle by Mike and Patti.

When the minister said David, you chose Jessica...I was like Damn, I forgot to put tissue in my purse.

Jessica and David are such incredible people. To say that I wish them the best is an understatement...

The Gospel According to Patti, (More)

  • I sound so glib but nothing was taken out of context.

  • Patti after reading The Gospel According to Patti

  • A body in motion stays in motion...You know what I mean? I just don't stop.

Re: my disbelief with Patti's route stamina

  • It's all between the ears.

Patti's commentary when you're stuck on a rock. She frequently tells me that I blast past the harder moves while getting stumped by simple stuff.

  • My child is still so trusting. I don't know how she got to be that way living in the house with the two of us.

  • Patti: Just do it.

Me: Isn't that a Nike slogan?

Patti to me while I was perched somewhere in the middle of What's Next?, a 5.9 route

  • "He who hesitates is lost." They don't just say that for no reason...

Patti to me as I was perched on yet another route

  • Trust your feet.

    Patti to me.

  • Me: You're stubborn.

Patti: Ya think? I've been married for almost 30 years and I have three kids that have been to college. You've been climbing with me all this time and don't know that?*

  • There you go being a purist again...

Patti after my commentary on how someone climbed a route.

  • Patti: Our heat went out...Yadda yaddda yadda....(Climbing) Schedule...

    Me: Okay.

Patti: “Okay…?" Where’s the sympathy? Where’s the love?

Me: OMG...Are you okay? Are you warm? Would you like for me to bring you coffee, thermal underwear, blankets???

  • You get all the credit.

An oldie but goodie. Patti's response after I thanked her for coaching me up a 5.8 when I first started climbing.

One Boulderer To Another or Overheard at the Gym, IV

Note: Most of these exchanges were overheard at the rock climbing gym.

  • People who rock climb are not into comfort.

  • Brandi while helping someone select a pair of shoes during Upper Limits' Black Friday sale.

  • My toes are sound asleep.

  • Patti's commentary on her toes which were in her new climbing shoes and weighing in at about two sizes smaller than her street shoes. Brandi, LOL, helped her select the shoes.

  • Marrying you is one of the smartest things that I've done...Marrying you is probably the smartest thing that I've done.

  • Mike to Patti

  • This hurts. Boy Scout who was trying to put on his rock climbing shoes.

It's supposed to hurt. Another Boy Scout

Like, I can't even get my foot in the shoe...Boy Scout

  • Over Here-ah? Young boy who was trying to get input from his father about where to place his foot.

Boy: I want to come down.

Father: Don't look down; just keep going.

  • I'm afraid of heights, a little shorty halfway up Slabtastic, a 5.6 route

  • His father tried to convince him to continue with his ascent.

  • It's okay. It's all right. Don't worry about it. You can just climb. It's okay...

A young man repeated this refrain to his friend who did not pass her belay test. He reassured her for quite a while.

  • Shorty (hesitant about continuing upward): I haven't been here in a while...

    Mother: I'm here. I gotcha.

  • How do I get my fat ass off the floor?, One boulderer to another...

  • Boulderers will often start a route in a seated position. That's Ryan getting ready to start a route.
