One hour -- that's my goal when I exercise. There's a part of me that wants to extend the hour or nix the rest day. Feel like I can and should go for longer spurts but as I looked over the exercise that I engaged in during 2014, I realized how consistently I'd moved my body. In addition, I continue to be amazed at how my body holds up. It works fabulously and I'm grateful.
I'm satisfied that I met and exceeded my goal of bicycling more this year.
Thoroughly enjoyed outdoor yoga and had fun with new experiences like yoga nidra and the winter solstice celebration.
Alison drew me back into Zumba sometime in April and I've been shimmying ever since...

Magic Happens or Year-End Review, 2013
This year-end tally is a lot like using a lap counter at the pool -- you still wonder if you pushed the button. Was it really 22 laps or 23? I feel like I did the cardio kickboxing segment of 5 Day Get Fit Mix more than four times. Or, was that last year? And, surely, I took Rapid Results off the shelf more than once. I'm pretty sure that I did the willpower & Grace routine as well. No matter, I did "it."
The 'Fugee says that she should not read my blog at the end of the month. Look away 'Fugee. Look away... or join me sometime.
A woman recently asked me how I stay motivated to exercise. I told her that I use exercise to decompress and that, even when I don't feel like exercising, I do 10 minutes and magic happens.
Happy New Year...

In The Zone or Year-End Review
![]() |
| Ample Lanes And Non-Arctic Temps |
I looked around at area pools, saw what time the high school team would be practicing at this one center and decided to hit the pool after the school's session. My timing was impeccable. A swimmer was leaving as I put my paraphernalia on the bench.
It's awkward being at a different pool with different people and it took me ten laps just to settle down. I had no intention of swimming a mile and I seldom do. My intention is to first swim for 30 minutes or 10 laps. Once I hit my first goal, I relax. I had time and a lane all to myself. Why not go for a mile? The last ten laps wore me out but I dug deep. I ignored the fact that I drifted to the right of the black line. I stopped wiping away the fog from my goggles. I stopped paying attention to the lifeguards rotating stations seemingly every 20 minutes and I stopped worrying about the people on the observation deck. Guess I got in the zone...
After stepping into my first yoga class in May of 2011, this was definitely the year that I got my yoga groove on. There are things that I could dwell on but I'm not. I moved my body a lot in 2012 and my enjoyment, at my body in motion, was profound.

The Workouts With and Without Friends or Year-End Review, 2011
Got up around seven in order to be at an 8:00 a.m. Hot Yoga class. The only reason that I went is because that class was the only one that Crystal, Jessica and Patti could make. There’s no talking allowed during class but it’s still nice to do a workout with friends. My balance, by the way, bites early in the morning...I had forgotten some of the activities that I engaged in until I compiled this review. A newer friend asked me if I ever did anything normal like walk for exercise. I find it very hard to resist a long walk when the weather is stellar. Plus, I've had some of my best epiphanies while walking.
There are many days when I gnash my teeth about the variety of activities that make it hard to stick to my philosophy that money spent on fitness is money well spent. I wish that many of the things that I enjoy could be housed under one mega facility and I'm still mulling over the best financial approach to my various pursuits. On the other hand, I'm thrilled that there are many activities that I like to do and that I enjoy moving my body even when it's an intense workout.
I've gained five pounds (well, four since I've taken up Hot Yoga) but no panic here since I still fit comfortably into pants that I purchased three years ago. Looks like I did gain muscle logging in miles of swimming et al.
I heard a lot of memorable things from coaches/teachers/instructors but one of my favorites and maybe because it's fresh in my mind is when Cindy told us during a Hot Yoga class to not let our mind write stories. This strategy is very effective when negative thoughts creep in. Lately, though, there's less and less negativity hanging around my neighborhood...
Happy New Year. Hope that your 2012 is filled with all kinds of fitness pursuits.
