The Good Swimmer

Felt like I'd been away from work for weeks instead of one and took that as a good sign.

I had a great staycation -- not sure what made this time so much better than previous post-birthday vacations but I'll take it.

On Saturday went to Crystal Fest and on Sunday went to Active Nation Day at Ballpark Village. As we were practicing yoga, I heard this buzzing sound and just as I looked up the teacher let us know that it was a drone. I'm pretty sure that when I signed up online, I agreed to have my picture taken or something like that but, ugh, the horror. As Alison said, "We've been droned."

Later on I looked at the organizer's website and alerted Alison that the video was there but, as she said, the footage wasn't scintillating enough to go viral. We were both thankful.

I also wanted to go to the Strange Folk Festival but it was so hot this past weekend.

Went swimming tonight even though I feel a little under the weather. This woman asked me how many laps I usually do and she talked about her lap goals then said But I don't swim as good as you. It still surprises me when someone mentions me...swimming...and good in the same sentence.

Last night I went to yoga and we got the chairs out! Joy joked that we were not going to do geriatric yoga but whatever -- chair yoga, gentle yoga -- count me in...

Like A Stranded Turtle

Started singing "Neither One Of Us" in the shower earlier in the day. Guess that I don't want to be the first to say goodbye to my little staycation...

This morning thought about how this woman walked up to the hoola hoop area last night at a yoga event and told me that I needed to stick my butt out and she calmly proceeded to hoop it up effortlessly.

Hadn't hoola hooped in a while and I guess it's not like riding a bicycle.

The yoga event at Union Station was special. It was a fundraiser (for veterans of war) and a yogapalooza of sorts.

The Hoops

As I checked photos on Instagram, I spotted several photos of myself including one that had me cracking up.

There was live music -- a reggae band -- and once the music started, it was hard to hear Elle so the instructions kind of floated around which is why I'm going to say that I look, in Alison's word, like a stranded turtle.

A Day Early

What does one do for a staycation?

It was hard to top the pre-staycation trifecta of the Lantern Festival, Circus Flora and Farm To Yoga so I didn't try. What's the point of always trying to top something anyway?

Thursday morning, decided to make an oatmeal "recipe" like one I'd seen in Prevention magazine: rolled oats, unsweetened cocoa, coconut, almond milk, almonds (a little redundant now that I think about it) and a drizzle of maple syrup. The recipe didn't call for it but I added bananas. Was I moaning while eating it? No, but I liked the change.

Went to get an a.m. massage because I still feel tense. Because of the therapist's skill, I was able to go to that hypnotic state. At the end of the session, she thanked me -- as massage therapist will do and told me that she will see me when she sees me which meant I could truly take my time and not rush to get off the table so I didn't.

Couldn't resist going to the pool afterward. The air and water temperature was perfect and I capped off the day by going to Zumba...

Saw the Mayor tweet about one of the city pools. I forget about them.

Felt the need for a dip in refreshing water again so I headed to a city pool but when I pulled up there was no one in the water and, upon further inspection, the gate was locked. I did see a lifeguard who told me that there'd been a delay because of an inspection or something and that the pool is slated to open tomorrow. Nothing like seeing all off that refreshing water and real estate and not being able to get in.

I Chalked You or Stuff People Say To Me

  • Lifeguard: Your body is like mine. I have swimmer's legs.

I've got news for the lifeguard. I've been swimming for only three and a half years; the legs have always been thick...

  • I'm probably going to dream about planks.

After student yoga teacher killed us with planks and downward facing dog.

  • I think that I chalked you.

Lisa after giving me a hug when I entered the climbing gym.

  • Don't forget that there are stairs.

Massage therapist to me after an 80 minute massage

  • Me: I thought you had given up this gym.

Jeremy: No, I do like the other gym better but I'll climb wherever I have someone to climb with...

  • I finally got the feel of the living room.

A coworker who decided to have a staycation and said that he normally is so tired by the time that he gets home, he usually goes straight to the bedroom.

  • I'm a fanatic about everything that I do.

My S-I-L after we discussed her extension of the pantry

  • What? It's healthy...

My brother after I started preparing oatmeal as he took his breakfast casserole, which consisted of two dozen eggs, sausage, cheese, potatoes etc., out of the oven.

  • There's something going on with your body. I thought I felt it last time. Now, I'm for sure. There's movement in your body. There's always been a denseness there but this is new. I don't like to ask people if they've lost weight but...muscle weighs more than...

    Me: It didn't feel tight.

MT: (Chuckling) That's because you're used to it being that way.
