The Plan

Patti: What’s the plan for tomorrow?

'Drea: First, LOL, I plan to take an Epsom Salt bath. My calves are so sore that I was walking down the steps sideways. I did a bit of yoga so they are feeling better. You know that I wanna climb though. So, if the Ep doesn't do the trick, I might just gut it out anyway...

Colleague One: What is going on with you?

Mother: Are your legs sore?

Colleague Two: Are you okay?

Colleague Three: What happened?

Me: Too much exercise.

Colleague Three: That has never happened to me.

Me: Maybe it will.

Colleague Three: It hasn't happened yet.

Colleague Four: I should take a picture of you.

Mother: Whatever exercise you did, don't do it anymore.

My sore calves and penguin-like walk are courtesy of Kate's Tuesday night special. About 15 minutes into class Kate asked us, in the middle of jumping jacks, how we were doing but no one answered because, well, we had already exerted a lot of energy. Our inability to respond resulted in more jumping jacks -- not to mention the lunges and planks that followed.

In the end, I should know better than to take a class from someone who wasn't alive in 1980 or 1985 or 1989.

Been to any painful exciting classes lately?

  1. My instructors do the same thing and you'd better believe I answer right up so that we don't have to do more, lol. If Jessie says she can't hear us breathing in Yoga while we're holding a difficult pose, I start lamaze breathing like it's going out of style.

  2. I haven't been in an exercise class - ever. But, I've had times when I worked out really hard and then had a difficult time walking up my stairs!

  3. @Angela,

I love your Lamaze strategy. I actually got smart and gave Kate what she wanted which provided a brief pause in the beat down.

    @Diane,

    :o, Self-torture.

  4. Ooooh this made me giggle-walking down the stairs sideways! LOL! I'm sorry! LOL!
    ok-better now. :)
DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) can kill! I've been there....after some hardcore 110 lb squats-yeah.
I had someone explain it to me as the Ozzy shuffle...like how Ozzy Osbourne shuffles around.
It hurts so much, you have to hold on to the walls or whatever's around you when you sit on the toilet!
Hope you feel better soon!! :)

  5. Heather,

Glad that I made you giggle.

Are you still doing those squats? You rock woman.

I hadn't heard of the Ozzy shuffle but it's a great visual. It took four days but the calves are all better. Now, if the shoulder would just get on board...
