And There's Nothing Particulary Wrong

I don't talk much about weighing in because I've been at or around the same weight since November.

I get on the scale almost every day and sometimes it is quite a bummer to see the needle at a standstill or moving northbound even.

I look leaner to myself.

I'm 5'3 (and a 1/2), I weigh 175 right now which puts my BMI at 31 (obese). I certainly don't feel or think of myself as obese though.

My BMI score reminds me of the BMI Project that Gingersnapper linked to in one of her blog posts.

I would not have dreamed of being in the 170's two years ago. So, I am grateful for where I'm at right now.

In addition, I'm in a good place emotionally. So, why should I let the scale dictate my mood?

I'm lovin' exercise. I mean, really, who would have thunk it? I look forward to exercising and I have stamina galore.

I'm trying to get away from the concept of only the scale satisfying me...

I did something today that I haven't done in a long time. I put on ankle weights and, at first, it took me awhile to get into a decent rhythm. For the life of me, though, I don't know how I carried around so many extra pounds for so long because just four extra pounds on my walk felt heavy and burdensome.

By the way, it's always the side view that keeps you honest.

  1. Your physical fitness level and appearance are exactly why the BMI and the scale are not the only measurements of fitness. You are doing great and I think appreciating all you have accomplished is so important!

  2. Really great post. Funny that I have been thinking along similar lines lately and planning to post on this as soon as I can find the time.

We are all more than just a number on the scale. How we feel, the energy and vitality that we have are all important indicators as well.

I try to think of the scale only as feedback and only one indicator of my overall goal. According to my doctor I am in amazingly good health, have the heart of a horse, my cholesterol levels are fantastic, all the tests they run on my come back normal/excellent. Even my ortho said ," You have the spine of an 18 year old except for this one little area here where the disc is herniated."

So in conclusion, I guess I am saying that I agree with you 100%. You are healthy and strong and active and those are all important indicators. The scale and your BMI, just like mine, are numbers/tools to consider but the overall picture is the most important of all.

Good work, Happy Day and keep having fun!!

    @Diane,

You know what they say? Great minds think alike. I thank you for the reinforcement as well and I like how you think of the scale as feedback.

I'm also glad that, overall, you are in very good health.

    Cheers to vitality.

Thanks for telling me that I don't look obese. ;) I think the BMI parameters should definitely be adjusted and I do feel very grateful that I really enjoy exercising.
